This guide explains exactly how clients pay an invoice after you send it by email. The process starts from the email button, then continues on the invoice page where clients can pay online (if Stripe is connected) or follow bank transfer details in the invoice Notes.
How The Payment Flow Works
What Clients Receive
- Clients receive your invoice email
- The email includes a primary button: View & Pay Invoice
- That button opens the secure public invoice page
What Happens Next
- On the invoice page, clients review totals and due date
- If Stripe is enabled, they click Pay Now button to complete payment
- If Stripe is not enabled, clients use the payment instructions you provide in Notes (for example, bank transfer details)
Client Steps: Pay With Stripe
1. Open the Invoice From Email
- Client opens your email
- Client clicks View & Pay Invoice
- The secure invoice page loads in the browser
2. Click The Payment Button
- In the upper section of the invoice, client clicks Pay Now
- Client is redirected to Stripe Checkout
3. Complete Checkout
- Client enters card/payment details in Stripe
- After successful payment, client is returned to the invoice page
- The invoice status updates to paid once confirmation is received
If Stripe Is Not Enabled
Use Bank Transfer Details In Notes
- If no online payment provider is connected, clients will not see Stripe payment buttons
- Clients should follow your payment instructions in the invoice Notes section
- Typical details to include in Notes:
- Bank name
- Account name
- BSB / routing number
- Account number / IBAN
- Reference to use (for example, the invoice number)
Recommended Note Template
You can paste this into your invoice Notes:
- Bank transfer details:
- Bank: [Your Bank Name]
- Account Name: [Your Business Name]
- BSB: [Number]
- Account Number: [Number]
- Reference: Please include invoice [Invoice Number] as the reference
